Compassionate Care at Radford Green Eases Adult Children’s Worries

When LeRoy Cohen suffered a stroke in December 2012 and was hospitalized for two days, his son Michael and daughter-in-law Linda had to move fast to find a place for him to receive rehabilitation therapy.  “My father-in-law couldn’t walk,” said Linda, “and suddenly we were being asked where we wanted him to go.”  That question was made all the more difficult by the fact that LeRoy had lived in his home in Skokie, IL, with his wife Beatrice for 60 years.

The people at Radford Green were even more encouraging.  “Right from the start, the staff was just wonderful,” said Linda, acknowledging that a therapist’s job is not easy.  “They were kind, caring and patient, waiting until my father-in-law was cooperative and ready to do what he needed to do.  We were with him often, at all times of the day and night, and we only saw good treatment.”

Michael described the care his father received at Radford Green in three words:  “compassionate, persevering, and hard-working.”  Linda cites Radford Green Nurse Liaison and Admissions Coordinator Jessica Schnoor in particular.  “She made it all easy for us, which was all the more appreciated, given that we stumbled onto Radford Green in desperation the night before my father-in-law was admitted.”  Linda and Michael also appreciated LeRoy’s inclusion in the staff’s New Year’s Eve celebration at Radford Green.  “He didn’t want to go to sleep, and they made sure he was a part of it,” said Linda.  “Radford Green was a very comforting place in a time of need,” said Michael.  “People were genuinely concerned about making our loved one better.”  Added Linda, “It’s such a sense of relief when you find a good place for your parent; you don’t have to worry.”
