BJBE Hosts Spectacular, Multi-Genre Memorial Concert

Congregation BJBE will host the First Annual Stanley M. Ackerman Memorial Concert on Sunday, October 20, 2013, at 3:00 p.m., at Congregation BJBE, 1201 Lake Cook Rd., Deerfield.

The concert, featuring classical, jazz, brass and vocal performances, honors the memory of gifted musician and teacher Stanley M. Ackerman, a longtime BJBE member. Attendees are also invited to attend a musical reception following the concert.

The program is co-sponsored by the Ackerman Family and Chicago Jewish Funerals.

The concert will include performances by:

  1. The Silver Strings Ensemble
  2. The Illinois Brass Band Sextet, with special guest Jacob Taitel
  3. Martin Lopez, Violinist
  4. The Strolling Strings
  5. The Congregation BJBE Intergenerational Choir, with soloists Cantor Jennifer Frost and Cantor Ross Wolman

Shawna Rosen, BJBE Choir Director, said, “Mr. Ackerman inspired many of his students to pursue careers as professional musicians, and worked to provide broader opportunities for his students to perform and teach.”

Ackerman taught and conducted four orchestras at New Trier, and both played with and managed the Grant Park Symphony. Rosen adds, “His former students, colleagues, and the next generation of musicians are proud to honor his memory with this performance celebrating his career and love of music and teaching.”

The wine, cheese and dessert reception for those from ages 4 to 12 will feature music by 4 Strings Attached, an ensemble of gifted violin students from the Martin Lopez Academy.

A $10 contribution to the Congregation BJBE Zena, Clara, and Maurice Singer Memorial Choir Fund is appreciated.
