Washington source says Dold may be looking at rematch.
Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) will report raising more than $390,000 for a 2014 reelection bid while Washington sources indicate former Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) is considering a rematch. Schneider’s total is more than Dold collected in his first quarter after being elected in 2010, according to a release today from the Schneider campaign. Schneider narrowly defeated Dold in November. While Republicans have been expressing the hope Dold will run in 2014 for some time, a report in The Hill today indicated Dold is considering a rematch. Data from Lake and Cook counties shows low voter turnout for many local races.
Did you vote in the April election? If so, you were in the vast minority, according to unofficial tallies from the Lake and Cook county clerks’ offices. There are 19,674 registered voters in the Lake County portion of Buffalo Grove. Of those, only 1,315 cast ballots in the village trustee race, according to data from the Lake County clerk’s website. That’s less than 7 percent voter turnout. The numbers were only slightly higher in the Cook County portion of Buffalo Grove, which claims 9,562 registered voters. Of those voters, 8.2 percent cast ballots in the trustee race. The three incumbent candidates for Buffalo Grove’s village board were the only ones whose names were listed on the ballot. With 102 of 102 precincts reporting, Republicans swept the Democrats in all open positions within Wheeling Township.
Wheeling Township Supervisor Michael Schroeder retained his seat in Tuesday’s election, defeating challenger Fernando Arenas Jr. “I thought we had a great message and ran a great campaign, and we stayed positive and on issues that concern our residents," Schroeder said. "That message came across to the voters. I’m so happy I will have the next four years with a great group of people and we truly will accomplish great things.” Incumbents Assessor Jerry Sadler and Highway Commissioner Scott Saewert also won reelection.
