Seven District 214 Teachers Awarded National Board Certification for 2012

Seven educators from Township High School District 214 were recently informed of their achievement of National Board Certification, granted by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Teachers with this prestigious certification, considered the gold standard of teaching credentials, are considered highly accomplished educators

who have met rigorous criteria through intensive study, expert evaluation, self-assessment and peer review.

The following District 214 educators have been designated National Board Certified Teachers for 2012: Elk Grove High School—Kim Miklusak; John Hersey High School—Greg Stenzel; and Wheeling High School--Crystal Ellis-Abdullah, Victor Gonzalez, Emily Rodriguez, Mariola Sobol, and Orin Xavier.

The process for National Board Certification is a rigorous, voluntary endeavor, in which teachers demonstrate accomplished teaching via an extensive written portfolio (including student work, videotapes, analysis and reflection), as well as performance on six content-specific assessment exercises.
