Village Warns Residents of Identity Thieves and Jury Duty Scams

Threat has been reported in 11 states and involves a caller asking for personal information after stating you missed jury duty.

The village of Buffalo Grove recently sent out a bulletin warning residents of yet another type of identity theft threat; the jury duty scam.

The scammers place a phone call to an unsuspecting person and state they are a jury duty coordinator.  They go on to say that an arrest warrant has been issued because the intended target did not perform their civic duty, according to infromation on the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) website.

When the person says they never received a summons, the scammer asks for personal information such as a social security number and date of birth so the arrest warrant can be cancelled.
