Vernon Area Library Seeks New Trustee

Applications are being accepted for vacant position.

Residents of the interested in serving as a library trustee are invited to submit an application by Feb. 27.

The Library Board is seeking to fill a vacancy created this month by the resignation of Buffalo Grove resident Akrom Hossain. The vacancy will be filled by appointment, in accordance with Illinois statute and the library’s bylaws. 

To qualify to serve, an applicant must reside within the Vernon Area Public Library District and be registered to vote. A Petition for Nomination is not required for this appointment. The successful candidate will fill an unexpired six-year term ending in May 2017.

Prospective candidates should complete an Application for Trustee Appointment, available on the library’s website or at the Patron Services Desk in the library. Applicants should submit completed packets to the attention of Board President George Goldstein at the library. Completed applications will be accepted through Feb. 27. 

Those interested in applying are invited to attend an informal “Meet and Greet” with current library trustees at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at the library. Meet current trustees, pose questions about the position and appointment process, and, if desired, attend the board meeting to observe.

The Board will schedule interviews with applicants after Feb. 27, and hope to make a formal appointment at their regularly scheduled meeting in March 2012.

The Vernon Area Public Library District Board of Trustees provides a liaison between the general public and the library. The Board has the legal authority and responsibility to see that the library is well managed, and that it operates in accordance the laws of the State of Illinois and the policies established by the Board itself. Duties and responsibilities include budget oversight, policy formulation, long- and short-range planning, and appointment of the library director. The Board of Trustees regularly meets on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Vernon Area Public Library.
