Undercover Police To Enforce Traffic Laws

Buffalo Grove police officers disguised as solicitors will watch for motorists who disobey red lights and text while driving.

Officers will dress as solicitors and watch for red light violations at select high crash locations throughout the village.  Officers will also use this opportunity to enforce the new texting laws. The weeklong program began Sunday and runs through Saturday.

Red light violations are among the most dangerous, as these collisions typically involve a vehicle being struck on the side where there is less occupant protection, according to a press release from the . Red light running collisions typically result in very serious injuries and many times deaths.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department reminds motorists to remember these important rules when approaching intersections where there are traffic lights:

  • Yellow lights are an indicator to slow down and prepare to stop.
  • Come to a complete stop before turning on red.
  • Scan intersections and approach with caution, even if the light is green.
  • Yield to pedestrians. They have the right of way.
  • After your light turns green wait for a one second count and scan both directions before proceeding.
