Sente Announces Re-Election Bid

State representative says there is still work to be done in the 59th District.

State Rep. Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) announced Friday that she will seek re-election to the Illinois House of Representatives in the 59th District. Upon making her announcement, Sente released the following statement:

"I have strived to be a constant independent voice for the residents of the 59th District and I am honored and humbled to have earned their trust. With their support, we have worked in a bipartisan manner to reform state government and make sure taxpayer dollars are spent more efficiently by continuing to eliminate waste and bringing greater transparency to the state budget process.

While we have made progress, there is much more work to do. I am running for re-election as state representative to continue to repair the state budget, reduce government spending and improve the business climate in Illinois to bring jobs back to our community and restore fiscal health to the state.

While I am flattered that many constituents and friends asked me to consider running for Congress in the 10th Congressional District, I believe there is too much unfinished business in the General Assembly. The challenges we face in Illinois and in our communities requires dedication, resolve and commitment to put the practices of the past behind us, and it is crucial that we continue to improve upon the reforms we have begun.

Illinois’ budget process, while significantly reformed this year, is still a work in progress. It is vital that Republicans and Democrats work together, as we did in the House this year, to continue delivering openness and innovative ideas to make sure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely on education, public safety, environmental sustainability, and needed programs for seniors and the most vulnerable. Tantamount to greater fiscal responsibility is improving opportunities for local employers and those across the state to create and retain jobs in Illinois.

To help meet these challenges, I will continue meeting with constituents at local coffee shops, advisory committee meetings, town hall meetings, other events throughout the district and on their doorsteps as I seek their valuable input to represent their interests in Springfield. I ask for their continued support as we work together to make our state and communities stronger, more vibrant and ready for the future.”

Sente, who represents the current 59th District, will seek re-election in the newly redrawn 59th District in central Lake County and northern Cook County. The new 59th District contains all or parts of 19 communities including Buffalo Grove, Horatio Gardens, Indian Creek, Lincolnshire, Mettawa, Mundelein, Park City, Prairie View, Riverwoods, unincorporated Deerfield, Vernon Hills, Wheeling, Green Oaks, Gurnee, Lake Forest, Knollwood, North Chicago, Northbrook and Waukegan.
