Schneider, Dold Set Fundraising Records
Dold becomes first 10th Congressional District Candidate to raise more than $1 million in a quarter. Schneider becomes top Democrat.

Both Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) and Democratic challenger Brad Schneider of Deerfield broke fundraising records for the quarter ended Sept. 30, according to news releases today from the two campaigns.
Dold became the first candidate in 10th Congressional District history to raise more than $1 million for a quarter while Schneider posted the top dollar amount for a three-month period for a Democrat.

According to a release from the Dold Campaign, the North Shore Congressman will report collecting approximately $1,006,000 for the quarter by the time reports are due to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) Oct. 15. He has raised nearly $4 million since his election two years ago, according to FEC reports.
“At a time of growing uncertainty about the fiscal future of our country, I remain steadfast in my promise to tirelessly reach across the aisle to all members of Congress to continue to bring positive change to the District,” Dold said in the release.
Schneider will report picking up approximately $780,000 for the third quarter by the Oct. 15 FEC deadline which his campaign calls a new record for 10th District Democrats. According to filings with the FEC, his total amount collected is slightly under $3.3 million.
“We’re thrilled to see more and more people joining our campaign to stand up for marriage equality, a woman’s right to choose, protections for the Great Lakes, and affordable higher education,” Schneider said in the release.
Neither campaign disclosed the amount of cash on hand.
Voters in the 10th District will have their only opportunity to see Dold and Schneider debate live at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Lake Forest High School in a forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters from Lake Forest/Lake Bluff, Highland Park/Highwood and Deerfield. The forum is cosponsored by Patch and the Union League Club of Chicago.

Dold may have raised more money than Schneider, but thats only because he has the Wall Street special interests supporting him. (he is on the financial services committee)

Schneider has special interest money from the corrupt democrats and unions that control IL - do you feel that is any better? I don't see Wallstreet bankrupting IL, but the unions sure are.

according to Schneider's website, "more than 75 percent of contributions are first time donors." How exactly is that special interests in any way union or not? And by the way, Illinois public sector unions don't have anything to do with a federal election.

daniel - for one, you have to actually BELIEVE what Schneider is saying. He also said he was a successful small business person, but for some reason, does not have any small business income reported. Also, IL is going bankrupt due to union pensions - the unions have a very vested interest in getting democrats elected that will bail IL and the unions out.

What incentive would anyone have to lie about something that is going to be public domain in less than a week? The fact is that most of Schneider's donors are grassroots, in state, donors while Dold gets substantial amounts of money from special interests

@mattfromhp And even then, Schneider broke fundraising records off grassroots efforts. That seems to say a lot about the way these two are running their campaigns. Dold's campaign is based off of big secretive money from Super PACs and special interests, hiding his votes against women, the environment, and the middle class, and attacking his opponent on baseless and ridiculous claims.

Uh, Daniel, any "Super PAC" money is not counted in the figures being reported by Dold or by Schneider. Schneider claims to be a very successful businessman on his website and to the voters yet he hides his "business background" since January of 2010 and hides his tax returns. And you are going to trust someone who practices such evasion, who portrays his opponent's positions in a "blatantly misleading" (Daily Herald) fashion and who tries to "laughingly" (Chicago Tribune) portray Dold as a Tea Partier or a Tea Party Supporter? Sorry to burst your bubble.

Watched an ad against Dold that Schneider approved, and after every statement, I said "LIE" because that is what they were. Dold is not a tea party person. He has voted across the aisle more than any other congress person, Republican or Dem. The 10th District is mostly made up of moderate voters. Madigan really tried to redraw the district so that was not the case; however, everywhere I go I see a whole lot more Dold signs than Schneider signs.

Congressman Dold has run his campaign with honesty and integrity. I don't think that can be said about very many with a (D) behind their name.

Gee, "dold's supporter," I didn't know Rose Pest Solution is a monopsonist of Illinois labor. If they are so bad, there are other employers even in the Obama Recession. They could also unionize. Now, if you are keen on ferreting out misrepresentation, how about a poster who falsely calls himself "dold's supporter" to try to mislead first-time readers of highlandpark.patch to scan his anti-Dold postings. And don't tell us you are trying to be ironic.
If you think anyone reading your fabrications believes that Rose Pest Solution cares whether their employees eat lunch in their cars or in a fast food restaurant or wherever, I have several bridges across the Chicago River for sale.

This article is a textbook case of "false balance" from the media - Dold's fundraising clobbered Schneider, but the author presents it in the vein of, "Yay! Everyone's a winner; everyone gets a trophy." Dold actually set a real record; Schneider only set a record in the sense of putting a certain qualifier in front of it to get the outcome that the author desired. Makes you wonder if The Patch is reporting the news, or if they are engineering the news?

Brad schneider refuses to show his tax returns because the truth of his non existant career for the last 3 yeqrs will unfold. He has had zero clients..unless he considers himself one...and has lived off of his wife's wealth...his only accomplishment. What pray tell is his 25 years of experience? Where are Durbin, Pelosi, and Harry Reid? Thy should be demanding his tax forms...as should everyone in this district. He surely looks like a sham...Interesting that he says he's been working on his campaign for the past 2 years...so he couldn't work...What about every other candidate that has held jobs. How could anyone vote for someone who refuses to show his records....Our state in in the fiscal toilet...and he will only make it worse.

Tribune issued a very strong endosement of Dold...even called Schneidr laughable regarding his gross fabrication of the facts...
Look at his endorsements..its a who's ho of those that have helped ruin our state...unions, Madigan/John Cullerton. If you want more of the same fiscal mismanagement,,,Brad is your guy

The Daily Herald in their endorsement of Dold hit the nail on the head: Schneider's portrayal of Dold and his positions has been "blatantly dishonest."
Last I heard, over one million dollars in donations was far more than $780 thousand.

The DEMOCRATS controlled EVERYTHING and all they could do was raise the debt and not pass a budget. THEY were the ones that controlled Congress (spending) and policies during the last two years of GWB's 2nd term - you know when everything hit the fan. THEY were the ones protecting Fannie and Freddie when the Republicans wanted additional oversight back in 2004/2005. Also, don't give that garbage store about "obstructionist" - the Democrats were able to pass the ACA - they just saw that as more important that jobs and financial recovery.
