Police Blotter: Heroin Sends Person to Hospital, Many Mailboxes Damaged

ALCOHOL

Mariya S. Busse, 20, of the 700 block of East Independence Drive, Palatine, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to extinguish bright lights at 1:25 a.m. Nov. 17 on Arlington Heights Road at Plum Grove Circle.

Vytautas Abaris, 37, of the 2400 block of Randall Lane, Arlington Heights, was charged with driving under the influence, illegal backing, driving without insurance and traffic control violation at 2:15 a.m. Nov. 18 on Buffalo Grove Road at Lake-Cook Road.

Wilma Torres, 31, of the 1-100 block of LeJardin Court, Buffalo Grove, was charged with driving under the influence and disregarding an emergency vehicle at 4:10 a.m. Nov. 18 on Lexington Drive and Lake-Cook Road.

ANIMALS

A resident of the 100 block of Bernard Drive reported having two stray dogs in her backyard at 3 p.m. Nov. 18. An officer retrieved the two beagles and brought them to the station. The owner called the station and was advised to pick up the dogs.

COMPLAINT

A resident reported that while walking her dog at 11 a.m. Nov. 16 on Steeple Drive, she was able to view into an apartment and saw inappropriate sexual activity. Officers have responded to this type of complaint from the resident before, and have not found any evidence of illegal or inappropriate activity by the neighbor. The resident was advised to use discretion when making a report about observations and to avoid contact with the neighbor. 

A resident of the 200 block of Thornapple Court reported yelling coming from the upstairs unit at 9:45 a.m. Nov. 17. Officers spoke with the upstairs neighbor who said that her friend was upset because the resident asked him to go to the hospital because he was having chest pains. Paramedics checked the friend out and did not transport him. 

A resident reported that he provided his email address and Social Security number while submitting an online job application on Nov. 14. The resident was advised to contact the credit bureaus to place a fraud alert on his accounts.

DISPUTE

A complainant flagged an officer down at 11 a.m. Nov. 17 on the 100 block of Copperwood Drive and said that he was working in the area landscaping when he got into an argument with his boss, who fired him. The argument then turned physical. The officer spoke with the boss, who verified the account but stated that the complainant swung at him first and he defended himself. No complaints were signed. The complainant requested his week’s wages which the boss’ wife brought to the police station.

An official at Fitness 19 reported at noon Nov. 18 that a heated argument followed when she informed a couple that they could not leave their 6-year-old daughter unattended while they were exercising. An officer spoke with the couple and he stated that they were met by the complainant in a very unprofessional manner. The officer advised the couple that their membership has been canceled and that they have been asked not to return to the facility. 

DRUGS

A citizen who snorted heroin was brought to the Northwest Community treatment center by friends at 10:20 p.m. Nov. 16. The patient was ill, became pale and began having difficulty swallowing. The patient was transported to Northwest Community Hospital by paramedics. 

A 17-year-old Buffalo Grove resident was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, no valid driver’s license and disregarding a stop sign at 12:55 a.m. Nov. 18 on Carriageway Drive and Dundee Road.

MISSING PERSON

A resident reported Nov. 17 that her adult daughter has not returned since going to Chicago for a concert on Nov. 15. The daughter was entered into police state database and Chicago Police Department’s 17th District was requested to check the area for the daughter’s vehicle. 

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident of the 1-100 block of Carlyle Lane reported hearing a loud bang while he was inside the house at 9:30 p.m. Nov. 17. When the resident checked, he found a vehicle leaving the area and his neighbor’s mailbox detached from its post. While checking the area, an officer found another damaged mailbox and notified the owner.

A resident of the 200 block of Stanton Drive reported hearing a noise early in the morning of Nov. 18, and when he went outside later that morning he found that his curbside mailbox had been damaged. An officer responding to the report found a second damaged mailbox on Stanton Drive and left a note for the owner.

While on patrol at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 18 on the 100 block of Thompson Boulevard, an, officer noted a curbside mail box that was damaged. A note was left for the resident.  

THEFT

A resident reported that when he attempted to use his credit/debit card on Nov. 19 it was denied. When the resident contacted his bank, it was learned that someone used the resident’s account to make purchases totaling $832.81. 

TRESPASSING

A security guard on the 2100 block of East Lake-Cook Road reported finding a parked vehicle with all the doors and trunk open at 2:50 p.m. Nov. 16. At the same time, the guard observed a man leaving the area in a newer, red, four-door vehicle. The owner of the parked car stated that nothing was missing. 

VANDALISM 

A Buffalo Grove Park District employee reported that someone spray painted graffiti between 4 p.m. Nov. 15 and 9 a.m. Nov. 16 on equipment at Mike Rylko Community Park. 

OTHER INCIDENTS

Chicago police requested Nov. 17 that officers check with a resident to find out who is using the resident’s car. The male driver of that car fled on foot during a traffic stop and stolen property was found in the vehicle. An officer spoke with the resident who stated that her husband had taken the car in the morning. That information was relayed to Chicago police.

A resident reported Nov. 17 that her ex-husband is violating a court order governing communications between her, her son and the ex. After some discussion, the resident decided to speak with her attorney. 

A resident who has an order of protection against her husband that states that he is not to have physical, verbal, or written contact with her and their daughter told police that their daughter received a text message from her father at 8:10 a.m. Nov. 18. An officer spoke with the husband and reminded him of the requirements of the order, and will contact the State’s Attorney regarding the violation. 

An officer who was advised that a vehicle fled a traffic stop in Mundelein at 1:10 a.m. Nov. 19 noted the wanted vehicle traveling southbound on McHenry Road. A traffic stop was made; the driver was taken into custody and turned over to a Mundelein officer.
