Police Blotter: Dog Knocks Woman off Bike

ALCOHOL

Harold O. Eiler, 65, of the 2100 block of Birchwood Road, Buffalo Grove, was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane use at 1:50 a.m. June 24 at Buffalo Grove and Port Clinton roads.

ANIMALS

A resident reported that while his mother was riding her bike at 8 a.m. June 24 near Whispering Oaks Drive and Butternut Drive, a woman was walking a Central Asian shepherd dog, which pulled away from the owner and pushed the bike rider over. An officer spoke with the dog owner and advised her that whoever walks the very large, but friendly dog needs to be able to control her.

COMPLAINT

A resident of the 1400 block of Rose Boulevard reported that a person without a permit ignored the “No Solicitor” sign on the door and knocked at 4 p.m. June 22. An officer located people who were soliciting for Kids of America and did not have a permit. The supervisor was contacted and advised to pick up the boys. 

A resident reported a solicitor without a permit at 4:40 p.m. June 22 near Old Barn Court and Hidden Lake Drive. An officer located the person, who was soliciting for Ultimate Unity and selling magazines. The solicitor did not have a permit and stopped. 

A resident of the 1400 block of Mill Creek Drive reported a person selling children’s books at 4:50 p.m. June 22. An officer located the solicitor, who had a valid permit from Arlington Heights and did not realize that she had strayed into Buffalo Grove. The solicitor returned to Arlington Heights.

A complainant on the 700 block of Hastings Drive reported a person dumping construction waste into a Dumpster on June 23, which has been an ongoing problem. An officer located the offender, who admitted to the dumping. The Dumpster’s owner responded, decided not to pursue charges, and asked that the offender be warned. The offender apologized and left.

A resident of the 1100 block of Lockwood Drive reported that her neighbor’s son and his friend were circling her vehicle in her driveway and she was concerned that they would damage her car at 3:50 p.m. June 23. An officer spoke with the boys, who stated that they only went to the neighbor’s driveway to retrieve their hockey pucks. The boys agreed to stay away from the complainant’s house.

DISTURBANCE

A resident of the 800 block of Trace Drive reported two men yelling at one another in the parking lot at 11:45 p.m. June 22. An officer located one person, who stated that his acquaintance had been yelling at his son on the phone, and he was inside now. The officer ran both people through the police state database and found the one had an active arrest warrant from Arlington Heights for failure to appear in court for a DUI charge. Gytis Dubenas, 34, of the 800 block of Trace Drive, was arrested, processed and released on bond.

A resident of the 1100 block of Miller Lane reported an argument in the parking lot between two neighbors at 5:45 a.m. June 23. The argument was over someone ringing the doorbell to gain access into the building. The issue was resolved.

IMPROPER SECURITY

A resident of the 300 block of Foxford Drive reported that when she returned home at 7:30 p.m. June 23, she found the front door standing open. The resident stated that she believes she closed the door when she left at 10:30 a.m. Officers checked the house, found no one inside and everything in order. 

LOST ITEM

A complainant reported that he left his wallet on a table with his friends June 21 at . When he returned from the washroom, the friends had moved and the brown American Eagle wallet was gone.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT 

An officer observed a small fire behind the Toyota dealership on Dundee Road at 12:25 a.m. June 24. When he lit up the area, he saw three people standing behind the building and one holding something that was burning. The person dropped the object and the three ran into a wooded area. They were found and taken to the police station. They stated that they found a foam ball and set it on fire. All three were turned over to a parent.

THEFT

A  employee stated that a woman left the store with an unknown amount of groceries that she did not pay for at 12:15 a.m. June 23. The woman left in a silver vehicle and the employee gave the officer a possible license plate. The officer ran the license plate and then was unable to locate any contact information for that registered owner.

A resident was advised by his bank of a suspicious charge to his debit account on June 23. Someone made an unauthorized charge of $145.04 at a pharmacy in Georgia. The resident told the bank that he was not in Georgia and he still had his card in his possession. The account was closed and the bank will follow up.

WELL-BEING CHECK

A daughter told police June 22 that she has been unable to contact her mother, who is in poor health. An officer rang the doorbell and did not get an answer. The daughter provided the officer with the garage door code. The officer found the house in order with no one inside. It was learned later that the mother was out with a friend and doing OK.
