Police Blotter: Car Windows Smashed, Purses Stolen

ALCOHOL

Jack E. Collins, 40, of the 1-100 block of Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling, was charged with driving under the influence, transportation of open liquor, driving without insurance and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident at 11:20 p.m. June 24 on eastbound Dundee Road at Arlington Heights Road.

Israel Jiminez, 36, of the 1100 block of Johnson Drive, Buffalo Grove, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding at 12:15 a.m. June 25 on eastbound Lake-Cook Road east of Hastings Drive.

Michelle M. Madaras, 19, of the 16400 block of Olde Gatehouse Road, Tinley Park, was charged with possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor at 1:30 a.m. June 26 on Lake-Cook Road at Hastings Drive.

Douglas E. Malfar, 19, of the 1300 block of Devonshire Road, Buffalo Grove, was charged with possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor at 1:30 a.m. June 26 on Lake-Cook Road at Hastings Drive.

Olga Devyatkin, 56, of the 900 block of Long Acre Road, Northbrook, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving on a revoked driver’s license and illegal lane usage at 1:20 a.m. June 27 on westbound Dundee Road near Old Arlington Heights Road.

Augusto C. Vazquez, 29, of the 4200 block of 76th Street, Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a suspended driver’s license, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, illegal transportation of open alcohol and driving without insurance at 2:30 a.m. June 27 on Milwaukee Avenue at Riverwalk Drive.

BURGLARY

Someone removed $20 and a box containing headphones from an unlocked vehicle on the 1800 block of Twin Oaks Boulevard between 11 p.m. June 20 and 9 a.m. June 21.

A resident reported that when she returned to her car after watching a baseball game between noon and 1 p.m. at Emmerich Park, she found the rear passenger-side window broken. A black Coach purse containing credit cards, a checkbook, driver’s license and a pair of glasses was taken from the rear floor.

While checking the parking lot at Emmerich Park, at 1 p.m. June 25, an officer located a vehicle that had the rear passenger-side window smashed. The owner of the vehicle was located and he stated that his wife’s purse was missing from the back seat.

COMPLAINT

A resident reported a female solicitor selling magazines without a permit at 4:45 p.m. June 24 on the 1900 block of Sheridan Road. An officer located the woman who was selling for Commission Sales Inc. and she stated that she did not have the required permit. She agreed to stop and leave the area.

A resident reported June 25 that an acquaintance borrowed a video game and Wii game controller on Dec. 25 and has not returned it. The resident has made numerous attempts to contact the acquaintance. An officer contacted the acquaintance and she agreed to repay or replace the items.

A resident of the 1100 block of Miller Lane reported at 10:30 p.m. June 25 that her upstairs neighbor is too loud and their child makes too much noise. An officer spoke with the neighbor who stated that they are gone all day and attempt to keep any noise to a minimum. Both parties agreed to be a bit more understanding of each other.

A woman reported that she saw two youths climb onto the roof of Meridian Middle School at 7:55 p.m. June 26. An officer located the youths who stated they just wanted to see what it was like on the roof. The youths were admonished and they apologized. There was no damage observed.

Officers responded to a report of a disturbance at 11:15 p.m. June 26 at IHOP. An officer spoke with a customer who stated that the waitress made a mistake with her food order and the waitress began to yell at her when she brought the error up. The waitress stated that the customer began yelling at her and the waitress lost her cool and yelled back. The customer opted to leave.

FOUND ITEM

A resident reported that she found a man’s blue Schwinn Link bicycle at 4 p.m. June 25 on the 500 block of Mayfair Lane.

IMPROPER SECURITY

 A landscaper found a basement window popped out of a house that is in foreclosure at 1:35 p.m. June 24 on the 1-100 block of Fabish Drive. Officers checked the house and found everything in order. The window was replaced.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

A resident reported hearing a loud noise and found a male cleaning up glass from a broken door at 1:45 p.m. June 25 on the 700 block of Weidner Road. An officer made contact with another resident who stated that his guest closed the door too hard and broke it. The resident stated that he would contact the association and pay for repairs.

A resident reported finding the tires on her vehicle slashed at 12:30 a.m. June 25 on the 1-100 block of South Buffalo Grove Road. The resident stated that she had an argument with her ex-boyfriend and believes that he caused the damage. An officer spoke with the ex who said he slashed the tires and added that he owns the vehicle, so he damaged his own property.

A driver reported that while driving past the baseball field at Emmerich Park at 6:30 p.m. June 26, his vehicle was struck by a baseball, causing a number of dents in the hood.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT/PERSON

A resident of the 1-100 block of Crestview Terrace reported a male Hispanic come to her front door holding a piece of paper at 1:30 p.m. June 25. The resident noted another person sitting in a blue Ford Explorer. When the resident’s dog began to bark, the man left abruptly. The resident did not recognize the man, nor did she have an appointment with anyone. The area was checked with negative results.

Someone reported at 2 p.m. June 25 that a male adult had been hanging around Willow Stream Pool for some time and the complainant felt he was there to watch the juveniles in the pool area. An officer spoke with the subject who denied any wrongdoing. He checked out clear on the police state database.

A resident of the 700 block of MacArthur Drive reported an unknown person on his patio attempting to open the screen door at 5 a.m. June 26. An officer located the individual who stated that he was intoxicated and did not know where he was. He was trying to find his uncle’s house. The officer located the uncle’s home and dropped off the male.

THEFT

Someone unknown made an unauthorized $156.25 purchase using a resident’s debit card on June 10 in Palatine.

A complainant stated that when she parked her vehicle in the underground garage at 8 a.m. June 24 on the 400 block of East Half Day Road, she had a half tank of fuel. When the complainant returned to her vehicle at 5:40 p.m., she found the gas cap hanging and had only a quarter of a tank of fuel.

A resident reported that someone came onto his driveway and took his son’s bicycle at 3 p.m. June 25 on the 700 block of Patton Drive. An officer checked the area for the subject with negative results. The officer found the bike on Oak Creek Drive and returned it to the resident.
