OTB to Leave Buffalo Grove on April 22

Off-track betting will end Sunday at Adam's Roadhouse, but officials say the operation could return elsewhere in the village.

Off-tracking betting will cease at this weekend, but officials say that doesn’t mean Buffalo Grove has seen the end of OTB opportunities.

A sign outside of the location on Milwaukee Avenue announces that the operation will end April 22 and directs fans to head to the Players Pub & Grill in Prospect Heights beginning April 26.

“They are telling us they still intend to be in Buffalo Grove,” Village President Jeff Braiman said, adding that the village is waiting for a ruling on whether an off-track betting facility can operate at . The location was , and officials later said it was unclear whether the site is from Arlington Race Course.

“Hawthorne is very much interested in Buffalo Grove,” Hawthorne Race Course Chief Financial Officer Jeff Kras wrote this week in an email to Buffalo Grove Patch. “We continue to explore the opportunity of developing an OTB at the BG public golf course … We will continue to work with the City of Buffalo Grove and the Illinois Racing Board to evaluate this opportunity.” 

Braiman said Monday that he wasn’t surprised that Hawthorne was vacating its location before securing a new home in Buffalo Grove.

“The building is bad. It hasn’t been maintained,” he said, referring to conditions at Adam’s Roadhouse. The restaurant when the property owner went into foreclosure, but OTB, which is operated by Hawthorne Race Course, has continued.
