Longfellow Student Dies Unexpectedly

First-grader Dalton Hinkle passed away over the weekend.

A first-grader at Longfellow School died suddenly over the weekend, School District 21 officials said today (Monday).

Longfellow parents received automated phone calls Sunday from the school district, notifying them that Dalton Hinkle had passed away.

District 21 Assistant Superintendent Candace Thompson said the cause of Dalton’s death has not been determined, but that the Cook County Health Department told school officials that “there’s no need for precautionary measures” at the school.

Social workers were available to Longfellow students and staff today, Thompson said, and will be on hand Tuesday as well.

Longfellow parents told Patch that notices about funeral arrangements were sent home with students Monday. Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Feb. 9 at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 10 at The Orchard Evangelical Free Church in Arlington Heights. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Longfellow School PTO.

Our thoughts prayers and sympathy are with the Hinkle family on their loss of
this beautiful little boy. I never met Dalton but understand he lived near my
eight year old granddaughter,Abby, who walked to school with him every day.
