Long Grove's Apple Fest Begins Friday

Annual festival devoted to all things apple runs Sept. 28-30.

Long Grove’s annual Apple Festival returns this weekend with locally grown apples in their original form, as well as assorted other treats, including apple pies, apple cider donuts, caramel apple lattes and apple martinis.

The event will also feature live outdoor music and activities such as an apple cider donut-eating contest.

Apple Fest begins at 10 a.m. Sept. 28 and runs through 6 p.m. Sept. 30 in the village’s downtown district at Old McHenry and Robert Parker Coffin roads.

Admission is $5, and the fee is returned in the form of a gift certificate redeemable at any Long Grove shop from Oct. 1 to Dec. 23. Admission is free for children 12 and under.

$5 admission and you can't use the gift card this weekend? I guess my wife and I won't be going this year.

I thought the admission was a suggested donation. I think it's crazy that they now charge us to spend money there.

The $5.00 admission (per person) is a joke.
We spent $20.00 for our family to get into the "Strawberry Festival" and it was pretty boring. There were no strawberry good being sold. We saw one vendor selling baskets of berries and there were few. I felt ripped off.

For a admission charge won't be going !!!!!!!! There's nothing really to do there and for a charge to get in not worth my effort to drive there!!!

None of the other local festivals have an admission charge..Buffalo Grove days, Frontier Days and with those you get great music. If Long Grove wants to attract more people charging admission isn't the way to do it. It's sad to see so many businesses going under there.

If they need costs to run it why not use tickets like Taste of Chicago that include a surcharge? Then the people who just want to walk around don't have to be charged. Or have the vendors contribute a portion of their sales to the town. Or charge the people who pay to have a tent more. There isn't even enough in terms of activities to justify the charge.

Long Grove is 'dying on the vine'. They have been 'going down hill' years. They used to be a 'faux olde timey town' where you might be able to afford to buy something. Then the stores/vendors all had to 'close up shop' when economy hit the skids and they're having trouble getting anyone to even stop and look. Now charge people to just come and look? I understand they have to try to break even; but, even $5 is a lot of money for a lot of us and then couple the cost of gas. Better to stay home and use the money for necessities and not to go see over priced produce.

I was sooooo DISAPPOINTED when I found this past weekend that the Apple Haus is closed!!!!!!! That was one of the main reasons that I would go to Long Grove. :(
Things are really changing and I hope the Apple FEST gets back to the old way with The Apple Haus opening back up. Than
k you!!
