Buffalo Grove’s Lady Lifesavers are gearing up for another fundraising walk to benefit a cancer-related charity.
But instead of training for a three-day walk this year, they plan to participate in the American Cancer Society’s 8-kilometer Shamrock Shuffle.
“All of us have pretty much walked ourselves out,” said team member Marilyn Wagner, explaining the team’s new approach.
But the team, which currently includes eight members, has not wavered in its efforts to raise money.
Wagner will donate all profits from services booked between 4:30-9:30 p.m. Feb. 13. The salon can provide services for about 125 clients during that time, Wagner said. As of Friday, about half of the time slots had already been booked, she said.
The event will also include wine, food, boutique vendors, gold buying and a raffle. Raffle prizes will each be worth at least $100, and will include such services as ballroom dance lessons, theater tickets and a spa day at The Best Salon and Spa.
Tickets, which will be sold for $5 each or five for $20, can be purchased from Feb. 8-25 at the salon, where winners will be announced on Feb. 26.
Wagner emphasized that Manicure and Merlot is open to the entire community, regardless of whether salon services are booked that day.
“Anybody can come and have a great time without an appointment,” she said.
Services that night will include manicures ($16), mini-pedicures ($25), mini-facials ($35) and 30-minute massages ($35).
In past years, the event has raised $4,000 to $5,000 for the Lady Lifesavers team. Team members have generated more than $155,000 for cancer-related charities over the last six years through various fundraising efforts.
The volunteers will organize additional fundraising events in the coming weeks. Wagner said she is in the process of planning a May mother-daughter event that will include brunch and a fashion show at her salon.
