Crowd swelters in the heat at annual village festival

Bouncing up and down high above the ground appears to be fun for these children on the midway.

An estimated 5,000 people braved hot, muggy conditions and threats of rain Saturday to attend the second full day of Buffalo Grove Days, the village’s annual Labor Day weekend celebration.

Temperatures pushing the 90-degree mark and high humidity made for many a sweat-stained T-shirt as moms and dads pushing strollers and teenagers hanging out with friends filled both sides of Raupp Boulevard and Lake-Cook Road.

“It’s hot,” said Angela Bain of Buffalo Grove, as she sat with her12-year-old son, Brandon, on the curb near the Village Hall campus, making good use of blue hand fans passed out by a vendor.

The weather didn’t stop crowds as they strolled the midway playing carnival games, hopping rides, watching dancers, sampling the fare at the food tent or listening to music at the BG Palzooza stage.

More of the same is expected Sunday, highlighted by the Buffalo Grove Days parade, which kicks off at 1 p.m. starting at Bernard and Regent drives and a fireworks display at 9:15 p.m.
