Hyland Named District 21 Superintendent
Kate Hyland replaces Gary Mical, who retired after 10 years at the helm.
School District 21 will start the 2012-13 school year with a new superintendent.
Kate Hyland, who was previously the district’s associate superintendent for curriculum and learning, took the helm July 1. She replaces Gary Mical, who retired this summer after 10 years as the district’s superintendent.
“I am very grateful to have been able to work with such fine people who serve our students and community. They are people who care about children and the people who live in our community,” Mical wrote in the district’s summer newsletter, which is mailed to residents.
Hyland was hired by District 21 as director of program evaluation in 2003, and was later named associate superintendent for curriculum and learning. She brings 27 years of experience in education, 16 years of which have been in administration, according to a District 21 press release.
The district’s schools attended by Buffalo Grove residents include Kilmer, Longfellow and Tarkington elementary schools and Cooper and London middle schools.
