Controlled Burn Planned in Buffalo Grove

Fire will be designed to combat invasive plants.

A controlled burn will soon be conducted at Buffalo Grove Prairie for maintenance purposes.

The prairie, located north of Lake-Cook Road along the ComEd power lines, will be burned on a day between Nov. 15 and Dec. 5, with the exact day based on appropriate weather conditions. The day will be determined one or two days in advance based on temperature, humidity, wind speed and wind direction.

The burn will be done by the prairie stewards in partnership with ComEd. The fire is expected to burn for four to six hours, eliminating woody or non-native vegetation on three to five acres of the 10-acre land.
