Buffalo Grove Village Board Briefs: April 16

The following actions, discussions and announcements took place at Buffalo Grove's Village Board meeting.

In addition:

  • The board approved the reappointment of current commission members, named some new members and accepted the resignations of others. New volunteers include Craig Lane to the Bicycle Committee, Marc Blumenthal as chairman of the Ethics Commission and Bruce Matthews and Steve Goldspiel to the Plan Commission. Resignations were accepted from Plan Commission member Denice Bocek, Ethics Commission member Brian Rubin, Bicycle Committee member Marty Kander, Buffalo Grove Days committee members Rick Kahen, Mary Moodhe and Pam Sorocco, Blood Donor Commission member Lenna Scott and Paige Donnelly and Farmers Market committee member Janee Stempel.
  • Finance Director Scott Anderson delivered an update on the installation of the village’s new financial software. Different features of the program, which will include online utility billing for residents, will be rolled out beginning in July and continue through February.
  • Officials acknowledged the week of April 29 will be Village Clerk’s Week. Buffalo Grove’s longtime clerk, Janet Sirabian, will be honored at the next meeting.
  • No one spoke at the final public hearing regarding the electric aggregation program, which voters approved last month by referendum. Buffalo Grove officials are in the process of reviewing eight proposals submitted by electricity suppliers. Village Manager Ghida Neukirch said that many residents have been approached by alternative electricity suppliers in recent weeks. She emphasized that the village has not yet been selected by the village. She suggested that residents who receive a solicitation compare the offered rate to what they are paying ComEd. When the village selects a supplier, residents will receive a letter from the village with details about the rate negotiated on behalf of all residents.
  • Trustee Andrew Stein said the public is invited to an information meeting at 7 p.m. June 20 at Village Hall to discuss the current housing market in Buffalo Grove and the vision for future housing in the community.
  • Officials granted a variance to for a new wall sign and refaced ground sign.
  • Buffalo Grove officials agreed to partner with other suburban villages to contract with Azavar Audit Solutions, which will conduct a tax and revenue audit.
  • Officials agreed to partner with Lake County to construct a sidewalk on the north side of Deerfield Parkway between Busch Parkway and Barclay Boulevard. The village will pay about $24,000, or 20 percent of the cost, while the county will cover the balance.
  • Officials approved a new, five-year for garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup.
  • Officials approved a $172,971 bid from Schroeder Asphalt Services for bike path and parking lot improvements, and a $275,786 bid from Mondi Construction for sidewalk removal and replacement.
