Public Welcome to YMCA Ribbon Cutting and Annual Meeting
The North Suburban YMCA will add special fanfare to its Annual Meeting on September 20, as it dedicates the opening of a number of dramatically renovated rooms and spaces in its facility. NSYMCA Board President Matt Brennan and Executive Director/CEO Howard Schultz will preside over a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by tours of the remodeled areas and discussions of projects yet to be undertaken. The meeting, which begins with a reception in the newly-renovated lobby at 6:00pm, will also include the induction of new board members, informational presentations, and refreshments.
Over the summer, the Y underwent extensive indoor and outdoor renovations, encompassing both floors of the facility. Visitors now step across a new front patio to enter a spacious, fully-accessible welcome center with automatic doors, comfortable seating, and flat screen televisions. The men’s locker room has been updated with wood lockers, new tile, fixtures, and carpeting, with the women’s locker room scheduled to have comparable updates to be finished in October. New lighting, paint, and carpeting throughout the building’s corridors improve both its attractiveness and its energy efficiency. Other upgrades include an indoor/outdoor video security system, colorful new signage, and enhanced landscaping.
The Y has scheduled a number of upcoming public events to introduce the community to its newly-improved facility. In addition to the Annual Meeting, the public is invited to the Grand Re-Opening Celebration on October 13 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, which will feature a wide range of all-ages activities free of charge. On the same evening from 7:00 to 10:00, the Y will host a Trivia Challenge sponsored by the Northbrook Community Relations Commission. Then on October 28, the Y will hold its Fifth Annual Spooky Halloween Party, including the traditional haunted pool attraction, inflatables, and costume contests. All events will be held at the Y’s facility at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook. More details can be found on the Y’s website, www.nsymca.org.
“This is an incredibly exciting time for our Y,” commented Schultz. “The Annual Meeting is the first of many opportunities this fall for the community to visit and learn about all we have to offer. We’re looking forward to exceeding expectations when people come in, either as first-time visitors and longtime friends.”
