Girl Scouts Help Our Community

The Saint Mary BG fourth grade Girl Scout troop 42255 has been spending the summer working towards their Bronze Award.  It is the highest award a Junior Scout can achieve.

The process to achieve the Bronze Award consists of a minimum of 20 total hours on a project. The Saint Mary Girl Scouts worked with Carmel Catholic High School Juniors Molly Zadell and Alyssa Rao.  After discussions last spring, and observing the community, part of the Bronze Award process, the scouts decided to help Lake County Haven.

According to their website, “The mission of the Lake County Haven is to empower homeless
women and their children to achieve permanent, independent living.  Current estimates indicate that there are approximately 950 homeless people in the Lake County. The majority of those people are women and children. Many are victims of domestic violence or sexual
assault.”

The scouts proceeded to involve more of the community.
The Buffalo Grove Golf Course generously donated space on a hot Saturday morning so the girls, along with the ministry project, could sell lemonade.   At the end of the day the troop raised $350 for Lake County Haven.

The Saint Mary community will join the scouts in their HAVEN collection the weekend of August 25th when the scouts are outside Saint Mary Church after every mass
collecting for HAVEN.

Great job and thank you goes out to the girl scouts, Carmel Catholic, Buffalo Grove and Saint Mary Communities.  If you would like to help the Girl Scouts earn their Bronze award and help Haven as well send a donation to Saint Mary School, 50 N. Buffalo Grove Rd, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089 Attn:  Girl Scouts.  Checks should be made payable to Lake County Haven.   For additional information
