Wednesday, Aug. 22 was a cool start as Saint Mary students wrapped up their first day of the school year. The day ended with the traditional ice cream social for students, parents, teachers and guests.
Ice cream and toppings were provided by Culver's of Buffalo Grove and the event was sponsored by the Family and School Organization. Scoop, the Culver's mascot, made an appearance and delighted children and parents.
It was an especially celebratory start to the year with the new Parish Pastor, Fr. Dan, helping hand out ice cream.
Additionally, the families welcomed many new students in the first through eighth grades. Kindergarten parents had their own social the following evening during the parent-kindergarten orientation.
Kindergarten enrollment is up 58% over last year according to Debbie Eppel, Director of Development.

What a nice event to start the school year but the mascot's name is " Scoopie", not "Scoop".
